HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Allow us to conduct a food drive at your school, place of worship, or business.

We will provide everything needed for a successful drive from collection bins to promotional materials such as flyers and advertisements for you website.  Just tell us whom to contact and we'll do the rest!

Bring your group or family to volunteer in the food pantry.

We welcome your assistance with assembling food bags or helping with distributions.  Our experienced executive committee members will be there every step of the way to lead your group or family.  We ask that groups be limited to no more than 25 people.  Volunteer spaces fill up fast, so email
handup@jfssd.org or call (858) 637-3088 today to schedule your volunteer experience.

For additional information or to schedule your volunteer opportunity, contact us at:

DID YOU KNOW More than 1 in 7 American households, and 480,000 San Diegans struggle to put enough food on the table?

Run by a committee of socially-minded teen volunteers, the Hand Up Youth Food Pantry at Jewish Family Service doesn’t believe in handouts--instead, our pantry focuses on giving a hand up to help people get back on their feet. Not only do we provide food and hygiene items to thousands of San Diegans in need, but by including case managers at distribution sites we open the door to the array of vital services offered at Jewish Family Service.

2009-2010 Hand Up Student Executive Commitee

Hand Up Youth Food Pantry depends on the important work of volunteers, and generous monetary donations to respond to the need for supplemental food and social services in the community.

We hold distributions weekly at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Hillcrest, and once per month at Camp Pendleton and Murphy Canyon military housing areas, where Hand Up youth leaders provide activities for military children.  Food bags are also distributed at three JFS locations (Kearney Mesa, Encinitas, and Rancho Bernardo); Foothills High School; College Avenue Older Adult Center and JFS Foodmobile; Chabad-Downtown and Alef Center in north county.
